Recovery empowers people to use their unique strengths to restore and maintain quality of life despite the limitations inherent to a particular physical or mental health condition.
The goal is not necessarily to become symptom free (since in some cases, this will not be possible). Recovery is about moving beyond the illness to strive to achieve one’s full potential. This process helps the individual restore self-esteem, self-worth, pride, dignity and meaning while re-establishing autonomy and a sense of purpose. The aim is to live, love, and play a meaningful role in one’s community.
